Purchasing Analyst

Location: Knoxville, TN

Department: Operations

Type: Full Time

Min. Experience: Experienced

LuckyGunner.com is a 8+ year old organization that continues to revolutionize the way Americans buy ammo, and we need help further disrupting the industry.  Save yourself some time and do not read any further if you like to work in petting-zoo-like environments that are slow-moving and change infrequently.  If you like to work hard, be empowered to move the needle, be part of a productive team, solve problems, and generally get stuff done – please keep reading. This position is for a “Purchasing Analyst” (henceforth, “the PA”). One of LuckyGunner.com’s core competencies is managing and optimizing the ever-fast moving ammunition supply chain largely through creating and carrying out an effective purchasing strategy.  This position is not for someone who wants a sedentary, safe, corporate petting-zoo lifestyle.  Rather, this position is for a motivated, ambitious individual who can lead the charge with an ownership mentality seeking out and creating new purchasing opportunities, effectively optimizing existing supply-chain relationships, and optimizing fast moving inventory.  If you think you have what it takes to add value to the team, then read on…. The PA will be joining our small, motivated team and will be working alongside our lead Purchasing Manager in the Knoxville office.  This position will be charged with various tasks throughout our purchasing, supply chain, and operations departments.

The PA will have responsibilities such as the following:

  • Purchasing inventory – evaluating the effects of each purchasing opportunity on overall inventory breadth, cannibalization, inventory turnover, risk, profitability, and cash flow
  • Actively looking for purchasing opportunities from suppliers – We’re not looking for someone who has a sit back and wait around mentality
  • Interacting with suppliers via the phone, email, and in person to ensure that our supply chain is adding the maximum value possible to both our customers and suppliers
  • Managing pricing for several thousand items to maximize value creation
  • Traveling to meet with suppliers around the country to forge lasting relationships and enhance value for both the supplier and LG
  • Mapping out logistics and purchasing processes to ensure that all aspects of our business are being run in an efficient manner that can be scaled and easily understood by overlapping business units

Here’s what we’re looking for in a successful applicant:

  • Have an ownership mentality – You will be managing a large supply chain with lots of moving parts and you must be able to think with an owner’s perspective to be effective
  • Enjoy being challenged and pushed – we are demanding and have high standards
  • Like working hard – we believe the harder you work, the luckier you get
  • Enjoy identifying and solving problems by yourself – we don’t have time to hold your hand
  • Are detail oriented – this isn’t a sales job, so hopefully your friends would describe you as anal
  • Love applying mental models from the fields of micro-economics and investing
  • Love technology – our entire business is built on and facilitated by technology, so you will need to love it (at work and in your spare time)
  • Passionately driven – we don’t like working with zombies
  • Love Excel spreadsheets and Google docs – we use these tools daily to aid in making effective and objective decisions
  • Are honest – it’s obviously a prerequisite to have personal character, but our team can also be brutally honest
  • Personally made investments in the stock market (especially if individual equities and not just mutual funds)

You should be familiar with most or all of the following platforms, or their close competitors (please indicate which ones you are familiar with):

  • Microsoft Excel
  • Google Docs
  • Microsoft Outlook
  • Google Search and general web navigation

All applicants will be required to take a series of basic skills assessment tests.  If you aren’t willing to complete this, don’t even bother applying.  The process for finalists will include a more in depth skill test, a phone call, and a trip to our office to meet the team. This position will require work in our physical office in Knoxville, TN alongside our core team.  It’s not a problem if you don’t currently live in Knoxville, but you need to be willing and able to move to take this position full-time.

As far as compensation goes, we hate to use the cliche “it depends on experience” – ugh – but in this case it really will vary wildly by productivity (not necessarily “seniority” or experience).  We estimate the base salary will work out to between $50,000 to $90,000 per year, but look, we are flexible – if you are a stud(ette) and are good at this position and passionate, we can work out the compensation.

We don’t offer traditional benefits because we believe it can lead to a paternalistic culture that discourages individual decision-making.  Strange, right?  Look, we understand this approach is unique, and here’s how we make up for it.  Your compensation package will include a salary bump to account for the lack of benefits.  In other words, whereas most companies offer 9 units of compensation and 1 unit of benefits, we simply offer 10 units of compensation.  Then you can choose how best to take care of yourself (or not).

Interested?  Apply by filling out the information to the right.  We look forward to hearing from you!
